Response to MediaShot No. 7 (added Thursday October 18, 2007)
In regards to RTÉ.ie’s war coverage, I believe it is time to re-evaluate how we attribute facts, information and quotes. The US and UK governments have proven themselves to be unreliable when it comes to some statements and facts, particularly in regards to the Iraq War. As such, we should take better care to differentiate information sourced from ‘US officials’ or ‘anonymous people on the ground in Iraq’ from objective elements in a story or event.

It is over one month since we issued our MediaShot 'Gas, Gaeilge and the Media'. RTE remain mute on the subject. Below is an excellent letter received from a reader in response to the Shot.

Responses to MediaShot No. 1 (added Tuesday January 30, 2007)
Like many I rely on RTE for news, and was dissapointed that RTE news did not highlight or subsequently use the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health figures on Iraqi dead published in the Lancet last October. Given the general scientific acceptance of the methods used in this study, high interest in the war, and general use of such studies in many other contexts as highlighted in Mr Mannings article in mediabite.org, it is worrying to me that RTE has not quoted them authoritatively at the time and in any subsequent reference to this war.
